This isn’t an album for the masses it’s far too avant-garde for that, but the irony is it probably did inspire thousands of garage bands to form and perhaps go onto greater things (or at least a more commercial future). The Velvet Underground and Nico also has a very strong pop sensibility, although most of its songs have a discordant quality that renders them unlikely to make the top forty (which they never did), and yet it makes these rough diamonds all the more precious. It’s also a decadent and dangerously sexy album, no doubt helped by the presence of chanteuse Nico. I won’t stretch that argument too thin, but I will say, it resonates as much now as it ever did. There is a solid argument for this album having almost single handedly created (or at least pre-empted) Punk, New Wave. This was music at odds with the fashionable leanings of ’67 and that was to be its strength and hope for its own commercial longevity. Pepper, The Velvet Underground and Nico was quite happy to stamp in the shallow ersatz-psychedelic puddle with its leather fetish shoes. Released in the year of Flower Power and Sgt. Yet there has probably never been a band that has so insidiously changed the music landscape, while selling so few records.Ī band that never truly rocked in the traditional sense, The Velvets throbbed, pulsating with a hypnotic allure. Reed, John Cale, Sterling Morrison and Mo Tucker were not your average rock band, and nearly fifty years on and I concede that they are not for everyone. That was a marriage that didn’t last, but the Warhol connection probably gave them more exposure than might have otherwise been the case. Lou Reed’s tales from the dark underbelly of New York made The Velvet’s the perfect band for Andy Warhol’s Factory scene. That much is true, not just for me, but for millions of young people, and could still be. Usually a combination of the three.įirst mention for The Velvet Underground and Nico.ĭiscovering this album, and hearing it for the first time, was a rite of passage. The premise is simple: twenty albums that I either play the most, are my favourites or changed my life in some way (no matter how small). The center casting (102-46150-50) had modification to decrease the size of the center port from 2.250” to. The two lower outlet castings (109-46094) had a minor design change to alter the location of the lugs at the base of the casting. The aft shell half (102-46002-7) was thickened from.Improvements on this tank from the initial 106-46002 design include the following: For simplicity we will focus on the makeup of the 106-46002-150 tank since it is the most recent tank manufactured for the P-51. The most recent tank design, P/N 106-46002, by NAA was drafted for production on June 22, 1943. This tank did not include the scroll assemblies to remove air and create a back pressure in the cylinder banks. This tank design didn’t last long and was inactivated for future use on April 30th, 1943. It was also installed on the first 600 NA-103 Dallas-built P-51C models. This tank P/N 102-46002 was approved one month later and was installed on NA-102 and the first 400 NA-104 Inglewood California built P-51B models. In November 1942, the design for a subsequent variant of header tank was drafted for the Merlin V-1650 powered P-51 Mustangs. This initial tank was used on the P-51A, A-36, and earlier models, including the experimental mustang subtypes. The header tank was originally designed and engineered by North American as P/N 73-46002 on August 2, 1940, and approved about two weeks later. On all coolant lines which are located in the areas not readily accessible, install double hose clamps. A concentrated, high-velocity flow of air through the radiator dissipates heat from the coolant as it flows through the radiator tubes. From the header tank, the coolant flows directly to the engine cooling system section of the radiator, then to the pump for another circuit of the system. The manifolds discharge the coolant into the header tank, mounted at the front of the engine. The coolant flows from the pump to the exhaust lower side of each cylinder block, passes to the cylinder heads through brass, rubber-sealed tubes, then out through the manifolds attached to the intake side of each cylinder head. The normal cooling medium is circulated at a relatively high velocity by an engine-driven centrifugal-type pump mounted on the bottom of the engine. Otherwise it is of the conventional type consisting of components normally found in a liquid cooling system. This 16.5 gallon system is unconventional in the respect that it operates at pressures of up to 50 pounds per square inch. To understand the header tank one must consider it in context to the P-51 engine cooling system. Neither our deepness of friendship nor circumstances of the day stopped them from spreading as much joy as they could in a matter of 30 seconds. It is from a God of unconditional and everlasting love. It remains even in the most strenuous moments, and has no barriers or limitations. Joy is a difficult thing. It is not, however, to be mistaken with happiness. These girls that I honestly didn’t know that well at all treated me like I was their favorite person in the world, and made what appeared to be the worst possible 24 hours, a day that was worth enjoying to its fullest. The cloud over my heart had completely vanished, and it was replaced with an incandescent joy.Īs dramatic as this all might sound, I mean every word of it. This is the worst day in all of history, and I’m standing here grinning like a two year old who was just given the deluxe Barbie Dream House. I stood there for a few seconds, slowly becoming aware of the uncontrollable stretch in my facial muscles and the opening in my lips which exposed my teeth. I was dumbfounded. How did this even make sense. They complimented my tan (always the best- tip to guys: tell a girl how tan she is and you’re set for a very long and fulfilling marriage), they said that it was great to see me, and pranced out the doors. Still in shock of the amount of joy overflowing in front of me, I was embraced by two girls from my old high school that were just way too happy to see me. My eyes flipped upwards to see two tremendous, beaming sets of teeth that stretched from ear to ear on each of the two old familiar faces. All of a sudden, I felt a hand on my arm, and my ears were filled with an energetic voice exclaiming my name. With my head down and heart empty, I opened the shop’s doors and stepped inside. The early wake up call was not missed, and neither were Physics and Psychology.Īfter somehow managing to still be breathing after a morning of classes, I make my way over to the downtown Starbucks to start working on the seemingly endless amount of studying, homework, and papers that stood unshakeable in front of me like my own personal Mount Everest. Students drag their feet along the concrete sidewalks, and even the sun shines a little less than normal. No one smiles, and no one asks to make sure you’re okay. I’m sure you’ve gathered what day this is by now. Yep, it’s the first, heartbreaking Monday following a far too short Spring Break, aka the worst, most terribly unfortunate day that has ever existed in any college-goer’s universe. Waking up at 8 AM has never seemed quite so cruel. I gaze down at my tan skin, longing for a brightened spirit, but no matter how many shades darker I got over the past 7 days, my soul remains in a bottomless pit without any form of escape. I shut my eyes tightly, still able to hear the melody of crashing waves, lyrical whistling of birds, and whisper of palm trees brushing their leaves against one another, only to open them again and see a bleak reality of manmade buildings and obnoxious college students blaring their horns at each other. The lack of food in the kitchen makes the morning even more catastrophic. There is an overwhelmingly grim and hopeless cloud over the black hole that is my heart. The early morning rays of sun creeping through the blinds are tragically dull. The group, which features the nimble guitarist Roberts, the staccato drummer Adam Deitch and the elegiac organist Robert Walter, brims with talent and prior successes between them. W.R.D., the dynamic, gritty organ trio borne from the brain of Denver-based guitarist-bandleader-producer and Color Red record label co-founder, Eddie Roberts, boasts the bullish energy of three seasoned bandleaders in one standout sonic boom. Robert Walter Eddie Roberts Adam Deitch The Hit The band’s mix of classic and modern influences can be heard throughout the party-friendly mix of R&B, funk, rock, swamp-pop and blues of Where Do We Go From Here, from the slap-bass rave Make It After All to the band's contemporary renderings of NOLA R&B rarities (the 1975 Blackmail gem Let’s Get At It) and early Seventies classics ( Sly and the Family Stone's In Time).ġ0. Tony Hall, Nick Daniels, Alex Wasily, Ryan Nyther and drummer Devin Trusclair, cousins Ivan and Ian Neville have built upon their family’s iconic NOLA legacy as they’ve transformed Dumpstaphunk into the city’s pre-eminent 21st-century funk-fusion export. Over its past 17 years, Dumpstaphunk has earned its reputation as the most well-regarded next-generation New Orleans live powerhouse, the type of band whose live shows attract sit-ins from legends like Carlos Santana, Bob Weir and Trombone Shorty. Where Do We Go From Here is Dumpstaphunk's first album in seven years. This meant returning to the era where each of them first found their feet, a period which would shape their respective careers in the decades since.Ġ7. Peterson and Maunick wanted to approach music-making from the starting point that led to those early records. First appearing in October 2020 with single ‘Aspects’, the pair didn’t make public that they were behind the project. Bringing a fresh slant to a sound first developed by groups like Atmosfear, Hi-Tension, Light of the World and Freeez – with Maunick, it should be noted, also a member of the latter two bands – it’s the first material that Maunick and Peterson have released together in over a decade. On Aspects, he and Peterson revisit that important period and the spirit that guided it: self-taught, DIY vitality, and a raucous energy built on live performance. It was through Maunick’s band, Incognito – one of the essential groups of an oft-overlooked, vital pocket of Black British musical history – that they first connected. Long-time friends and collaborators, STR4TA sees them mine new musical possibilities out of that shared formative era. Gilles Peterson has partnered with Jean-Paul “Bluey” Maunick to reinvigorate the loose, protean energy of the early- 80s Brit-funk scene. Within the next three songs they go from Jazz ( Galt MacDermot), to Hip Hop ( Slum Village / J Dilla), to a dance floor classic ( Grace Jones) taking them all on with their signature style, expanding on the originals. Part of the allure of a new record from Bacao is finding out what covers they chose. Covering songs that span genres and range from mega hits to album cuts, they make them their own with their unique approach to the traditional steel pans of Trinidad and Tobago. On their third album, aptly titled Expansions, BRSB are back with more of the same, but more of the same with them is inherently different. With a slew of classic 7”s and two critically acclaimed full length albums, they set a high bar for themselves, one they clearly intend on pushing even higher with this new offering. Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band Expansions īacao Rhythm & Steel Band, the mysterious steel pan outfit hailing from Hamburg, Germany have amassed a cult following around the globe. New member James Byron (guitar) brings yet another fresh perspective on the band’s genre-agnostic approach, which takes Afrobeat, Latin, Rock and Rhythm & Blues influences in easy stride.Ġ4. Only Greg Boraman ( Freestyle Records boss) and bassist Raydn Hunter remain from the band’s original line-up, which now features Mark Norton (saxophone / flute) and James Smith (drums). The approach of constantly testing material in a live setting has endowed this record with an indefinable yet distinctive, authentic feel put simply, it successfully transmits the energy and immediacy of a great concert. The band have been honing this album at gigs and in the studio for nine long years, during which time singer Sulene Fleming has been busy collaborating with Incognito and Leroy Hutson, as well as enjoying a stint as lead vocalist for The Brand New Heavies. Respected UK funk/soul/jazz combo The Fantastics! released long-awaited third studio album, nine years in the making Take A Shot featuring Sulene Fleming. It's worth remembering that Halo 3 arrived on the precipice of the smartphone and social media boom, at a time where Xbox Live's community guidelines were more loosely defined, and long before we had the ability to easily record gameplay clips and share them with the world. While many Halo 3 players used the in-game chat functionality to forge friendships and communities – many of which extended beyond the borders of Bungie's FPS to other corners of the internet, persisting to this day – others took advantage of the systems and open lines of communication. The constant conversation heard in Halo 3 was, naturally, a double-edged sword. That the Xbox Series X/S doesn't come with a free microphone only adds to a silence that is lamented by players on Reddit and beyond, who are calling Infinite "the quietest Halo" they've ever played (opens in new tab).Įven myself playing in matchmaking and having my microphone on, there were always those comments from guys that were not really as accepting or welcoming into the group MLG pro Queenx3 In comparison, Halo Infinite, which doesn't have pre- and post-game lobby or proximity chat, is bizarrely quiet. Thanks to all of these elements, Halo 3 was an incredibly chatty game. Brilliantly, Microsoft encouraged social interaction through online gaming by shipping a free wired microphone with the Xbox 360 – with that, almost every gamer was able to chat in Halo 3 matches, which also included pre- and post-game lobby and in-game proximity chat. By 2007, broadband internet was more readily available and Xbox Live had long-proven itself as viable console players were eager to jump into online multiplayer lobbies and compete against others around the world from the comfort of their homes. That dynasty wasn't just reserved for gamers on the burgeoning professional scene. "The community and the franchise in general has been trying to replicate that golden era of what Halo 3 brought to competitive video games and to competitive Halo… I feel like ever since then, they've been just trying to recreate that experience and recreate that dynasty." "I feel like Halo 3 was the one of the first competitive first person shooters that was bringing in audiences that truly are hard to replicate today, even with how big esports are now," says Queen, who's been a pro player since 2005. As such, Halo 3 offered up a kind of fame and fortune that is commonplace in esports today, but was almost unimaginable in the late aughts. With the rise of YouTube and streaming sites like Justin TV, along with a short-lived stint on cable TV, Major League Gaming's Halo 3 streams had major audiences. The story is full of surprises, and the multiplayer feels fantastic.Halo 3 was uniquely poised to take advantage of the increased ubiquity of online gaming and the relative ease of broadcasting professional matches. Halo Infinite potentially sets up a whole new direction for the series to take.ģ43 Industries definitely made Infinite one of Master Chief's greatest adventures yet and, perhaps, the most ambitious Halo game to date. Seriously, if you think about what the arrival of the Harbinger and the Endless means, your jaw should be hitting the floor. Master Chief awakens three months later with a new AI companion known as the Weapon, and together they have to defeat the Banished and stop the rise of a new ancient antagonistic force on the ring. The Banished are the game's main enemies, with Infinite taking place right after they wiped out most UNSC forces on Zeta Halo. It takes place after the events of Halo 5: Guardians and Halo Wars 2. Halo Infinite is the latest release in the franchise. It's truly an exciting time to be a Halo fan. So much is going on that gamers will love. That said, there is no greater time to immerse yourself in Halo's universe than right now. The events that transpired in the game have vast repercussions for the future of the franchise, especially for those looking to delve further into the lore. Updated Decemby Amanda Hurych: Halo Infinite's release has rocked the very core of the series' narrative. Whether you are a long-standing fan of Master Chief's adventures or a newcomer wondering where to begin, read on and find out the chronology of Halo's universe. In order to rectify this, we have organized Halo games in chronological order regarding where each lies on the timeline. RELATED: Halo: The Master Chief's Biggest Weaknessesĭue to the long, sprawling lore that surrounds the franchise, it can be hard to determine where the story starts first. The Halo universe has expanded to gargantuan proportions, but we're not complaining. It originally came out in 2001, and the series has since spawned a variety of video games, books, and so much more. Halo is a franchise that has been ongoing for decades at this point. Among these are landmarks known as Statues of The Seven that can heal and revive characters, and provide benefits such as increasing player stamina. Many teleportation nodes exist throughout the world that players can warp to as a form of fast travel. Some characters possess abilities that can alter the environment, such as freezing water to create an ice path that can aid the player in traversing terrain. The player can control their character and perform actions such as running, climbing, swimming, and gliding which are limited by stamina. The game features an anime-style open-world environment and an action-based battle system using elemental magic and character-switching. The game is free-to-play with a gacha monetization system in the form of Wishes. Genshin Impact is an open-world, action RPG developed and published by miHoYo for PC, iOS/Android, and PS4/PS5 platforms. A small guide on main weapons and skills that complement them. Skill trees that won't be included are survival (because it provides universal benefits), Production skills (they are for crafter's/tamers but tamer tree is a bit of special case), battle skills (benefit is offset by skill points.)įirst thing to note is that main weapons is that their skill tree provides a skills that would be effective if used with that particular weapon but not always. Eg: you can use the blade tree skill warcry with any other main weapon. Mana control: How easy it is to create combos to efficiently use skills. Eg: Creating low MP cost skills which deal high damage without affecting proration greatly or having high AMPR to offset high combo MP cost. * Improved by using skills and from the magic and shot skill trees to improve efficiency and AMPR. * Having a higher mana control enables more skills to be used before having to stop and recharge via normal attacks or otherwise. Skill point efficiency: How many skills are actually useful in the end game, eg: for shot skills, the ailment skills don't see much use for their ailment ability and are used as 'save tag skills' instead. With good skill point efficiency, it becomes easily to adopt complement skill trees. * Improved by taking only the skills you will be using in a combo rather than taking all skills in a skill tree you may or may not use. * Take skills that provide more overall benefit rather than situational benefit. Synergy: How easily it is for the main weapon to use skills from other main weapon skills without too much hassle. Eg: being able to focus on physical attack or magical attack without crippling the other significantly. * Synergy with your sub skill trees are important. Using martial skills with a magic user for example isn't very efficient as it tends to take away from both physical and magical rather than benefit the two. * Proper synergy can even boost the overall efficiency of your build by allowing you to perform in more situations but to achieve diversity, you often have to sacrifice skill point efficiency. Because objects can be created as subtypes of other objects, they can inherit variables and methods from those objects. In any case, it is not uniquely a OOP feature and can be done with modules isolating a system function or a set of data and operations on those data within a module. Abstraction is a complementary concept to encapsulation here where encapsulation hides internal information, abstraction provides an easier-to-use public interface to data. Even though it is most commonly associated with object-oriented programming, the concept itself is in fact separate from it and can be implemented without using objects. Supposedly, it is one of the greatest benefits of OOP. This protects mutable data from being changed willy nilly, and makes application data safer. OOP encapsulates data by default objects contain both the data and the methods that affect that data, and good OOP practice means you provide getter and setter methods to control access to that data. This means that data is generally hidden from other parts of a language-placed in a capsule, if you will. Let’s look at the cornerstones of OOP.Įncapsulation. There are some valuable aspects to OOP, some of which keep it omnipresent even when it has its drawbacks. Seen this way, OOP seems to just be hitching a ride, rather than driving the success. Millions of developers quickly moved to Java due to its exclusive integration in web browsers at the time. Ultimately, Sun Microsystems wanted to repeat the C++ trick by aiming for greatest familiarity for developers adopting Java. Then Java wanted to appeal to C++ programmers and doubled down on the OOP part. Building on C, C++ added object orientation but Feldman argues it became popular for the overall upgrade from C including type-safety and added support for automatic resource management, generic programming, and exception handling, among other features. C++ was developed in the early 1980s by Bjarne Stroustrup, initially as a set of extensions to the C programming language. Richard Feldman argues in his talk that it might just be coincidence. For the web, it’s JavaScript, Python, PHP and Ruby.Īsking why so many widely-used languages are OOP might be mixing up cause and effect. Java, C++ and Kotlin rule mobile for Android and Swift and Objective-C for iOS so you can’t develop software for mobile unless you understand the object-oriented approach. But that might be due to the success of languages who happen to be OOP. OOP is still one of the dominant paradigms right now. Other ways of describing this new way of solving problems include the analogy between an imperative programmer as “a cook or a chemist, following recipes and formulas to achieve a desired result” and the object oriented programmer as “a greek philosopher or 19th century naturalist concerned with the proper taxonomy and description of the creatures and places of the programming world.” Was the success just a coincidence? Everything comes with an implicit, inescapable environment. There is the overhead when reusing code that the creator of Erlang famously described as a case when you wanted a banana but you got a gorilla holding the banana. Some claimed that under OOP writing tests is harder and it requires extra care to refactor. Then the critics arrived on the scene, some of them quite disappointed. With OOP being followed by OOA (object-oriented analysis) and OOD (object-oriented design) it soon felt like everything you did in software had to be broken down to objects and their relationships to each other. After an initial hype period had promised improvements for modularising and organising large codebases, the idea was over applied. If they are used to top-down programming or functional programming, which treats elements of code as precise mathematical functions, it takes some getting used to. It is fair to say that, generations later, the idea of organizing your code into larger meaningful objects that model the parts of your problem continues to puzzle programmers. In contrast, many people who have experience with computers initially think there is something strange about object oriented systems.” “Many people who have no idea how a computer works find the idea of object-oriented programming quite natural. In the August edition of Byte magazine in 1981, David Robson opens his article, which became the introduction of Object-Oriented Software Systems for many, by admitting up front that it is a departure from what many familiar with imperative, top-down programming are used to.
